Cash & Associates provided project management for a
multidiscipline consultant team and complete architectural, structural and civil design,
and master planning for a new 55 acre container terminal. Terminal planning
incorporated layouts for future expansion to 80 acres with two and four track on-terminal,
double-stack rail facilities. Cash & Associates was responsible for container yard
layout and arrangement of facilities; design of a four story Administration Building and
Truck Entry Gate Complex with elevated bridges and elevated fully-automated Gate
Operations Room; a two story Marine Operations Building with offices, lunchroom, restrooms
and storage for crane parts and stevedoring gear; inbound/outbound canopies; fully
integrated audio, video, scale and computer systems; emergency power system; terminal
security and communication systems;and provisions for the incorporation of future
information gathering technology. Work included civil engineering for all site
improvements (i.e., terminal paving, striping, utilities, stormwater handling) and
complete construction observation/support services. Due to the success of operations at the Pier C terminal,
Hanjin outgrew the site and required a larger facility. The Pier A Terminal is 170
acres, features on-dock rail facilities allowing direct transfer of cargo between ships
and trains, and has six container cranes capable of serving Post-Panamax ships. Cash
& Associates served as the Structural Engineer of Record for design and construction
of five new terminal buildings including a three story Marine Operations Building,
the East Clerk's Facility, a two story Crane Maintenance Facility, the Longshoreman's
Check-In Facility; and a two story Rail Operations Building. Structural design work
for these new terminal buildings included 3D static and lateral analyses and structural
modeling techniques to simulate earthquake ground motion. |
