Site Work - Facilities

CAST PLATE PLANT SITE IMPROVEMENTS
Aluminum Company of America (Alcoa)
Alcoa-4.jpg (31749 bytes)Vernon, California

Complete civil engineering services for various site improvements necessitated by a facility consolidation involving the sale of a 23-acre portion of existing plant property and dedication of the remaining 31-acres and five plant buildings to aluminum manufacturing operations.  To facilitate the property division, it was necessary to improve and relocate storm drain and sanitary sewer systems, a 50' wide plant access road, fencing and parking.  The storm drain system was completely reconstructed on the 31-acre portion.  Other work included preparation of volumetric cut and fill quantities and precise grading plans for four acres.  An existing railroad spur was removed and pavement in the parking, loading and truck storage areas was reconstructed.  A new plant roadway/entrance was provided and security fencing was restored.

NEW PLANT ACCESS ROADWAY & SITE IMPROVEMENTS

A major Caltrans highway project to widen Interstate 5 necessitated modifications to the Magnolia Avenue freeway on/off ramps.  Due to their close proximity to the Delphi Plant, these modifications impacted the existing plant access rendering the facility virtually inaccessible.  Cash & Associates was retained to design a new plant access road and the associated site improvements.  The new road runs though a landscaped area along the front of the plant.  The stormwater runoff collection system was modified and new catch basins were added to prevent water from ponding, as well as flooding the adjacent buildings.  Throughout the work, design and construction schedules were carefully coordinated with Caltrans to prevent delays to ongoing freeway construction and to ensure continuous plant access during construction.

Ultramar Refinery
Wilmington (Los Angeles Harbor), California

Complete civil engineering and construction support services for improvements to a refinery facility's entrance, roadways and parking areas.  Project involved 13,200 LF of 21' wide roadways and 113,700 SF of parking space.  Work included preparation of construction documents for grading, paving, pavement striping and marking, wheel stops, and traffic signage.  Existing pavement was removed, pulverized and recycled as for use as base material for new paving.  To minimize disruptions to ongoing refinery operations, phased construction schedules were developed.
