Facility Design - Other
GTE/VERIZON
CENTRAL TELEPHONE SWITCHING FACILITY
Westminster, California
Cash & Associates provided architectural, civil and structural design services for
renovation of an existing 35,000 SF central office telephone switching facility (Before,
Top Photo). Initital project objectives were focused on improving maintenance
and service reliability by replacing and/or upgrading all electrical and mechanical
systems, increasing system capacities, and providing redundancy. Our initial scope
of work involved preparation of easement documentation for fire department access and
design of 14' high equipment screens that provided air flow requirements, equipment
foundations and support, and modifications to the existing structure for placement and
penetration for new utilities. As the project progressed, differing Client and City
objectives caused a stalemate. Because the facility was in a Redevelopment Zone, the
City wanted to have t he
building's street front facade improved which conflicted with the Client's budget
parameters for the project. Cash & Associates assumed the lead role in smoothing
relations working closely with Verizon and the City to reconcile issues within the
project's schedule and budget. This resulted in a new building facade and landscape
improvements (After, Bottom Photo) that blend with an adjacent recently upgraded
shopping center. Ultimately, Verizon received a design award from the City for its
efforts.

SEISMIC RETROFIT, THE ESPLANADE BUSINESS PARK
Costa Mesa, California
This project involved seismic retrofit of a mixed-use business park consisting of six
concrete tilt-up buildings originally constructed in the early 1970's. Engineering
services included field inspection and identification of deficiencies, seismic analysis,
preparation of construction documents, and construction phase support. Seismic
design considerations included the site's proximity to three earthquake faults.
Retrofit measures focused on mechanical connection of building walls to roof and floor
framing.
FIRE DAMAGE REPAIRS SHOE CITY
La Puente Plaza, Puente Hills, California

Cash & Associates provided structural engineering for projects involving Burnham
Pacific's retail/commercial facilities. This project involved a retail store that
had sustained heavy fire related damage. Services included: field inspection
to assess the nature and extent of damage, design of temporary shear wall and ceiling
membranes, development of interface details between new construction and undamaged
elements, preparation of engineering calculations and construction documents for repairs,
and construction support.

services for various projects involving expansion, rearrangement and/or upgrade to
existing facilities. Services have been provided directly and under design/build
contracts. Projects have included manufacturing, office, lobby, conference room,
data processing, quality assurance/testing, engineering and drafting, machine shop,
employee breakroom/lounge, warehouse, and support facilities. Design for
manufacturing/production facilities included the incorporation of semi-clean and cleanroom
design criteria. Selected projects experience includes:
 | Office, Production & Warehouse Improvements (7 Buildings);

WAREHOUSE/DISTRIBUTION FACILITIES - BERGEN BRUNSWIG
Valencia &
Sacramento, California
Cash & Associates served as the Owner's Representative during the planning, design and
construction of two new facilities to support warehousing and distribution of
over-the-counter and prescription pharmaceuticals and related merchandise. Each
facility was approximately 200,000 SF with warehouse areas equally divided between rack
storage for bulk items and picking areas with elevated conveyor systems. Warehouse
design required hazardous materials storage areas with retention basins to collect
contaminated runoff in the event of accidental spills or fires. Shipping areas
included mezzanines, areas for overnight storage, and loading docks with individual bays
to accommodate loading of multiple vehicles. Office areas included data processing
space with raised access flooring. Site improvements included fuel storage and
dispensing facilities, parking for 150 vehicles, and area landscaping.

FLINT SAND PROCESSING PLANT
Simi Valley, California
Cash & Associates provided complete structural and civil services for design and
construction of an industrial plant to process sand into various rock and sand products
for domestic and export purposes. Facility components included shakers, hoppers,
bins, washing facilities, crushing equipment, and conveyor/material handling systems.
Structural work included design, analysis and construction documents for a five
story, open steel industrial structure and various equipment and conveyor foundations.
Civil design included development of site grading plans.
