New Port of LA Aerial copy.jpg (432173 bytes)Port of Los Angeles, California

Cash & Associates is providing terminal planning and design services under a multi-year on-call services contract.  Project examples:

-  Berths 206-209 Gate Design.  Development of construction documents to restructure an existing terminal gate to meet new tenant's requirements.  Involves conversion from manned to unmanned gate with new OCR technology, cameras, pedestals and utilities.

-  Berth 400 Pacific Energy Terminal.  Development of construction documents for site electrical service including primary power, lighting, communications, site grounding system, cathodic protection system, and high mast light pole foundations.

-  Evergreen Terminal Reefer Receptacles.  Electrical engineering to develop construction documents to relocate 200 reefer receptacles and provide high mast lighting.

SECURITY COMMAND AND CONTROL CENTER
Port of Long Beach, California

The Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles form the largest active port complex in the United States providing maritime shipping services and products that affect commerce throughout the country.  Due heightened port security concerns, the Port of Long Beach secured funding from the Department of Homeland Security, Transportation Security Administration, to design and construct a new joint Security Command and Control Center.  The center is envisioned as a centralized location housing port-wide security monitoring operations.   The center has been planned and designed for utilization by the Port of Long Beach as well as the Port of Los Angeles, and a variety of local law enforcement agencies and Federal agencies such as the U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Customs.  The center has been designed as a secure facility with controlled access from the land, water and air.   The 25,000 SF main building has been designed to meet USGBC LEED™ "Silver" Certification criteria.  Cash & Associates involvement has included facility planning, civil engineering for design of site infrastructure, and architectural services for the LEED™ Certification effort.

FIRE STATION NO. 24
Port of Long Beach, California

Cash & Associates provided planning services to conceptually locate a new fire station within a Port industrial area.  The project involved identifying potential sites for an existing fire station displaced by construction of a new container terminal.  The scope of services included evaluating and ranking several potential sites based on existing and future traffic patterns, site ingress and egress, truck and rail noise, and future uses of adjacent properties.  The evaluation also included locating fire station facilities at a site that would not preclude the Port locating a viable container terminal on the site at a future date.  The study included development of a conceptual site plans depicting the various elements evaluated for several potential locations.  Cash & Associates is currently providing civil engineering for site work associated with design and construction of fire station facilities at the selected site.

BERTHS 225-232 EVERGREEN TERMINAL IMPROVEMENTS
Port of Los Angeles, California

Cash & Associates provided engineering services to relocate an existing delivery gate and expand container storage into two 8-acre parcels.  Project scope included the creation of an internal truck queue with communication pedestals and construct a new mobile inspection platform.

Recent work under a Port of Los Angeles On-Call Contract for Terminal Planning and Design Services, Cash & Associates provided engineering to relocate reefer outlets and high-mast lighting.

BERTHS J243-J247 REEFER WASH - PACIFIC CONTAINER TERMINAL
pct3.jpg (46816 bytes)
Port of Long Beach, California

Cash & Associates provided project management, structural, civil and architectural design for a new Pacific Container Terminal single loaded, semiautomatic container wash facility.  The facility features an elevated reinforced concrete, dock level platform with a 16' high 10,000 SF steel, rigid-frame canopy and spaces to wash up to 18 refrigerated containers (reefers).  Lighting consists of canopy-mounted, energy efficient high pressure sodium lighting and manually controlled task lighting.  Steel components are protected by epoxy paint specially formulated to resist the effects of harsh detergents and the port/marine environment.  A separate concrete masonry unit structure houses pumps and related equipment and provides storage for soap drums.  Wash equipment includes high pressure pumps, soap dispensers, and a control panel.  Utilities were sized to accommodate wash operations for approximately 250 containers per week and a manual washing system.  The new PCT Reefer Wash increases wash capability by 100 container washes per week.

CONTROLLED ATMOSPHERE (REFRIGERATED) STORAGE FACILITY
Port of Long Beach, California

Cash & Associates provided structural engineering for installation of three new refrigerated spaces within an existing transit shed.  The new 80,544 SF refrigerated area (58°) allows controlled atmosphere storage and ripening of imported fruit (bananas).  Use of an existing transit shed structure provided column-free support for the refrigeration envelope, maximization of product storage, and reduced the construction cost.
Work on this project included coordination with the Terminal Tenant, Terminal Operator, and Refrigeration Consultant.
